FAQ

When are school subject names capitalized?

School subjects are capitalized when they are specific course names or language names ('I have English and Algebra 2') but not when used as general references ('I like math and science').

What are the rules for capitalizing titles of books, movies, and songs?

In titles, capitalize the first and last word, all major words (nouns, verbs, adjectives), and do not capitalize articles, short prepositions, or coordinating conjunctions unless they come first — e.g., 'The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.'

Why are brand names capitalized?

Brand names are proper nouns — they refer to specific, named products or companies — so they are always capitalized (Kleenex, iPhone, Lego), even when used generically in casual speech.
