Plants True or False Review
Written by Adi Ackerman, Head Teacher
"Plants True or False Review" is written for 2nd Grade (Ages 7-8). If your little one is a year younger but already steady on plants, the page still works. You may just need to read the instructions out loud. And if they are older and plant needs never quite stuck, this is a short review rather than busywork.

2 pages in this set
2nd grade science worksheet: use a box of plant facts to answer ten true or false questions about how plants live and grow. Answer key included. Part of our plant needs plants collection. Aligned to NGSS standards.
How do I use this worksheet?
Start with something students can look at or think about: a photo, a short video, a jar on the windowsill, or a question like "what do you already know about plant needs?" Then let them work through it independently after a quick group example, checking in with a partner if they get stuck, keeping a word bank or anchor chart in view so the vocabulary stays available. When you review, ask students how they knew, and let them point to the part of the diagram or reading that told them. These plant needs worksheets work well as a lead in before an investigation, as a way to capture what students noticed afterward, or as review before an assessment.
What students will practice
- Identify the four things plants need to survive: water, sunlight, soil, and air
- Explain the function of each need in supporting plant growth and health
- Design a simple investigation to test how removing one plant need affects growth

What does this worksheet teach?
⌄
Use a box of plant facts to answer ten true or false questions about how plants live and grow. Pollen is a yellow powder that flowers need to make seeds. A life cycle is the set of stages a living thing goes through as it grows. The directions on the page read: Read the plant facts. Then, turn the page to answer the true or false questions. On page 2: Read each sentence. Then, circle True or False. Look back at the facts on page 1. The answer key covers the questions on page 2.
Can I use this plant needs worksheet for homeschool or classroom?
⌄
Yes, both. We made it for 2nd Grade plants, and the page works the same whether it lands on a kitchen table or a center rotation. At home, most families go through it together and talk the answers out loud, and that talking is where most of the learning happens with plant needs. In class it runs well as independent work while you pull a small group. Print one copy or thirty, whichever the day needs.
What do plant needs worksheets teach second graders?
⌄
At Grade 2, plant needs worksheets move beyond simple identification to explanation and investigation. Students explore why each need matters, sunlight for photosynthesis, water for transporting nutrients, soil for anchoring and minerals, and begin to design simple experiments to test what happens without one resource. This builds both content knowledge and science process skills.
When do second graders learn about plant needs?
⌄
Plant needs are revisited in Grade 2 as part of the plants life science unit, typically with a more investigative focus than in Grades K and 1. The concept connects directly to photosynthesis, plant adaptations, and ecosystem studies, giving students a more complete picture of how plants function.
How can I use these worksheets at home?
⌄
Set up a simple experiment at home: grow two identical seedlings but give one water and no sun, and the other sun and water. Observe over one to two weeks and use the worksheet to record observations and draw conclusions. Seeing the actual effect of removing a plant need is far more memorable than any diagram.
How many 2nd Grade plant needs worksheets are there?
⌄
2 printable worksheets, all free to preview. Downloads are included with a ClassWeekly free trial, and every page prints on standard 8.5 x 11 paper.
What age are plant needs worksheets for?
⌄
These are written for 2nd Grade students, roughly ages 7-8. Many teachers also use them a grade up for review or a grade down as an extension, so use the preview to judge the fit for a particular child.
Are these plant needs worksheets aligned to NGSS?
⌄
Yes. Each one shows the NGSS code it covers on its own page, so you can check the alignment yourself rather than taking our word for it.
