FAQ
How do I use this parts of speech review worksheet?
⌄
Start with the sort, then move to sentences and the story. When your child is unsure, ask what the word does: names, replaces, acts, describes a noun or tells how. Check with the answer key where there is one.
What does this worksheet teach?
⌄
Sort 20 words like doctor, she, sticky and happily into noun, pronoun, verb, adjective and adverb boxes. A noun names a thing and a pronoun replaces it. A verb shows action, an adjective describes a noun and an adverb tells how or when. The directions on the page read: Read each word in the Word Bank. Then, write each word in the box for its part of speech. Each box gets 4 words. An answer key is included.
Can I use this parts of speech review worksheet for homeschool or classroom?
⌄
Yes, both. We made it for 3rd Grade parts of speech, and the page works the same whether it lands on a kitchen table or a center rotation. At home, most families go through it together and talk the answers out loud, and that talking is where most of the learning happens with parts of speech review. In class it runs well as independent work while you pull a small group. Print one copy or thirty, whichever the day needs.
What parts of speech do 3rd graders need to know?
⌄
CCSS L.3.1.A asks 3rd graders to explain what nouns, pronouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs do in a sentence. Those five are the focus of this review.
How can my child tell an adjective from an adverb?
⌄
Find the word it describes. An adjective describes a noun, like the shiny coin. An adverb describes a verb, like Ravi ran quickly. Does It Describe a Noun or a Verb has students draw an arrow to show which.
Why can the same word be a different part of speech?
⌄
A word's job depends on how it is used. Run is a verb in I run fast but a noun in a long run. That is why What Job Does the Word Do asks about underlined words in sentences, not words alone.
Is there an answer key for each worksheet?
⌄
Four of the five sheets have an answer key. Build Sentences From Parts of Speech does not, because each student builds their own sentences; check that each sentence uses one word from each column.
How many 3rd Grade parts of speech review worksheets are there?
⌄
5 printable worksheets, all free to preview. Downloads are included with a ClassWeekly free trial, and every page prints on standard 8.5 x 11 paper.
What age are parts of speech review worksheets for?
⌄
These are written for 3rd Grade students, roughly ages 8-9. Many teachers also use them a grade up for review or a grade down as an extension, so use the preview to judge the fit for a particular child.
Are these parts of speech review worksheets aligned to Common Core?
⌄
Yes. Each one shows the Common Core code it covers on its own page, so you can check the alignment yourself rather than taking our word for it.
