5th Grade Reading Response Worksheets

Ages 10-11 · 1 sub-topic · Free previews · Print-ready PDFs

These reading response worksheets for 5th grade help students write about a book or text they have read, using evidence. Students state a theme as a claim and back it with two exact quotes (CCSS RL.5.2), compare two characters in a chart and explain how the setting shapes the plot (RL.5.3), and tell how the narrator's point of view shapes the events (RL.5.6). Nonfiction sheets compare two texts on one topic (RI.5.9) and chart an author's claim, reasons and evidence (RI.5.8). Others plan an objective summary, a literary essay, a book recommendation with evidence and a letter to a character. Ten original two-page sheets.
