Plan a Biography Paragraph About Sally Ride From a Fact Card

Written by Adi Ackerman, Head Teacher

"Plan a Biography Paragraph About Sally Ride From a Fact Card" is written for 4th Grade (Ages 9-10), and it covers Common Core W.4.2. If your little one is a year younger but already steady on informative writing, the page still works. You may just need to read the instructions out loud. And if they are older and biography writing never quite stuck, this is a short review rather than busywork.

FAQ

How do I use this biography writing worksheet?

⌄

Read the fact card together and have your child circle each year before filling in the timeline. Then talk about why the person is remembered before writing the last box.

What does this worksheet teach?

⌄

Read a fact card about Sally Ride, then fill a 4 row timeline and plan a topic sentence and why she matters. A biography tells about a real person. A timeline shows events in order. The directions on the page read: Read the model. Read the topic. Then, read the Fact card. Then, using the card, write a year and what happened in the 4 rows, a topic sentence and why she matters. Then, use your plan to write your draft on lined paper.

Can I use this biography writing worksheet for homeschool or classroom?

⌄

Yes, both. We made it for 4th Grade informative writing, and the page works the same whether it lands on a kitchen table or a center rotation. At home, most families go through it together and talk the answers out loud, and that talking is where most of the learning happens with biography writing. In class it runs well as independent work while you pull a small group. Print one copy or thirty, whichever the day needs.

What is a biography?

⌄

A biography is a true account of a real person's life, written by someone else. It tells important events in order and explains why the person matters.

Why use a timeline?

⌄

A timeline puts events in order by year, which becomes the order of the paragraph. The Sally Ride planner has 4 rows for a year and what happened, after a model row about Jackie Robinson joining the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947.

Is there an answer key?

⌄

No. Both pages are open planners. Check that each timeline row has a year and an event from the facts and that the paragraph ends with why the person matters.
