Counting Caterpillar Math Pack

Read a caterpillar picture book first to set up the theme. Tell children to touch each circle, head included, so they do not stop one short. Counters or snap cubes help on the addition page; build each caterpillar, join them, then count. Read the story problems aloud for early readers and let them act the stories out with real fruit or toy food at home. Pages 1 and 4 work well as morning work.

Page 2: Caterpillar Addition, five problems adding two caterpillars. Page 3: Count the Fruit, six boxes (oranges, pineapples, bananas, kiwis, bunches of grapes, blueberries). Page 4: Caterpillar Numbers 1 to 10, count, trace each number two times and write it. Page 5: Fruit Story Problems, four addition stories (3 + 2, 4 + 1, 2 + 4, 5 + 3).
