How Firefighters Get Ready for a Call, Order the Steps

Written by Adi Ackerman, Head Teacher

"How Firefighters Get Ready for a Call, Order the Steps" is written for 2nd Grade (Ages 7-8), and it covers C3 Framework D2.Civ.2.K-2. If your little one is a year younger but already steady on Community Helpers, the page still works. You may just need to read the instructions out loud. And if they are older and Firefighters never quite stuck, this is a short review rather than busywork.

What does this worksheet teach?

⌄

Order how firefighters answer an alarm, pull on boots and a heavy coat and buckle up in the truck. Gear is the special clothing and tools for a job. The directions on the page read: Read the passage. Then, turn the page, fill in the flow chart and answer the questions. On page 2: Write the steps from the Step Bank in boxes 1 to 4 in order. Then, circle the letter of the best answer for questions 5 and 6 and write the answer to question 7 on the lines. The answer key covers the questions on page 2.

Can I use this Firefighters worksheet for homeschool or classroom?

⌄

Yes, both. We made it for 2nd Grade Community Helpers, and the page works the same whether it lands on a kitchen table or a center rotation. At home, most families go through it together and talk the answers out loud, and that talking is where most of the learning happens with Firefighters. In class it runs well as independent work while you pull a small group. Print one copy or thirty, whichever the day needs.

What do firefighters do between fires?

⌄

At the fire station, firefighters check the fire truck every day and clean the truck and the hoses. They practice with drills, exercise to stay strong and visit schools to teach fire safety. During a long shift they eat and sleep at the station.

How do firefighters get ready for a call?

⌄

First the alarm rings. Next the firefighters put on their gear, boots, a heavy coat and a fire helmet. Then they climb into the truck and buckle up. Last they drive to the call with the lights flashing and the siren on.

Is there an answer key for each worksheet?

⌄

Yes. All 3 firefighters sheets have an answer key.
