Write a Thank You Letter to the Bus Driver

Written by Adi Ackerman, Head Teacher

"Write a Thank You Letter to the Bus Driver" is written for 1st Grade (Ages 6-7). If your little one is a year younger but already steady on writing, the page still works. You may just need to read the instructions out loud. And if they are older and letter writing never quite stuck, this is a short review rather than busywork.

FAQ

How do I use this letter writing worksheet?

⌄

Choose a real person for the letter, so your child has a reason to write. Talk about what to tell first, then let your child write the letter and add their name under the closing.

What does this worksheet teach?

⌄

Read a made-up letter to a school cook, then write a thank you letter to a bus driver with Thank you for and You help me. A greeting says hello, the body tells news, a closing says bye. The directions on the page read: Read the Model and the topic. Then, write a name after Dear. Then, write 3 sentences, one on each row, starting with the printed words. Then, circle Love or From, trace it and write your name.

Can I use this letter writing worksheet for homeschool or classroom?

⌄

Yes, both. We made it for 1st Grade writing, and the page works the same whether it lands on a kitchen table or a center rotation. At home, most families go through it together and talk the answers out loud, and that talking is where most of the learning happens with letter writing. In class it runs well as independent work while you pull a small group. Print one copy or thirty, whichever the day needs.

What are the parts of a friendly letter?

⌄

A friendly letter has a date at the top, a greeting like Dear Grandma, a body that tells news or says thank you, a closing like Love or Your friend and the writer's name, called the signature. Find the Five Parts of a Friendly Letter practices all five.

Why do 1st graders practice writing letters?

⌄

A letter has a real reader, so children see why clear sentences and capital letters matter. Capitalizing the date and people's names in a letter is part of L.1.2.A.

Can we mail the letter?

⌄

Yes, and it makes the writing feel real. Your child can copy the finished letter onto a card or send the page as it is.

Is there an answer key?

⌄

Only Find the Five Parts of a Friendly Letter has one. The other 11 sheets are open letters, so check that each has a greeting, a body and a closing, and that names start with capital letters.
