Round Large Numbers to the Underlined Digit
Written by Adi Ackerman, Head Teacher
"Round Large Numbers to the Underlined Digit" is written for 5th Grade (Ages 10-11). If your little one is a year younger but already steady on place value & rounding, the page still works. You may just need to read the instructions out loud. And if they are older and mixed rounding problems 2 never quite stuck, this is a short review rather than busywork.

5th grade math worksheet: round 18 numbers up to 63,508,270 to the place of the underlined digit, from thousands to ten millions. Answer key included. Part of our mixed rounding problems 2 collection.
How do I use this worksheet?
Before handing out the worksheet, briefly introduce the concept with a short oral warm-up or a visual model on the board. Let students work through it independently and self-check their own work against an answer key before you review it as a class, encouraging them to talk through their thinking: "What strategy are you using? How do you know that is right?" After completing the worksheet, review any missed problems together and discuss the reasoning rather than just the answer. For extra support, let students use manipulatives or draw pictures alongside the written problems. These mixed rounding problems 2 worksheets work well as daily practice, homework, or a focused review activity.

What does this worksheet teach?
⌄
Round 18 numbers up to 63,508,270 to the place of the underlined digit, from thousands to ten millions. To round to the underlined digit, look at the digit to its right: 6,482,915 to the nearest hundred thousand is 6,500,000. The directions on the page read: Round each number to the place of its underlined digit. Then, write the rounded number in the box. An answer key is included.
Can I use this mixed rounding problems 2 worksheet for homeschool or classroom?
⌄
Yes, both. We made it for 5th Grade place value & rounding, and the page works the same whether it lands on a kitchen table or a center rotation. At home, most families go through it together and talk the answers out loud, and that talking is where most of the learning happens with mixed rounding problems 2. In class it runs well as independent work while you pull a small group. Print one copy or thirty, whichever the day needs.
How do you round numbers in the millions?
⌄
Find the place, look at the digit to its right, and round up if it is 5 or more. 6,482,915 to the nearest hundred thousand is 6,500,000, because the ten thousands digit is 8.
What happens when you round up several nines?
⌄
Each 9 becomes 0 and the next place to the left goes up by 1. 1,999,999 to the nearest ten is 2,000,000, and 9,500,000 to the nearest million is 10,000,000.
Which numbers round to 4,000,000?
⌄
Every whole number from 3,500,000 to 4,499,999. 3,950,750 and 4,398,000 round to 4,000,000, but 4,500,000 rounds up to 5,000,000.
Is there an answer key?
⌄
Yes. All 5 sheets have an answer key.
