Find the Mistake in the Color Pattern

Written by Adi Ackerman, Head Teacher

"Find the Mistake in the Color Pattern" is written for Kindergarten (Ages 5-6). If your little one is a year younger but already steady on number patterns, the page still works. You may just need to read the instructions out loud. And if they are older and color patterns never quite stuck, this is a short review rather than busywork.

Can I use this color patterns worksheet for homeschool or classroom?

⌄

Yes, both. We made it for Kindergarten number patterns, and the page works the same whether it lands on a kitchen table or a center rotation. At home, most families go through it together and talk the answers out loud, and that talking is where most of the learning happens with color patterns. In class it runs well as independent work while you pull a small group. Print one copy or thirty, whichever the day needs.

What do AB and AAB patterns mean?

⌄

The letters stand for the parts that repeat. An AB pattern is red, blue, red, blue. AAB is red, red, blue, and ABC uses three colors, like red, yellow, blue. Saying the colors out loud helps children hear the part that repeats.

Why are patterns taught in kindergarten math?

⌄

Finding the part that repeats and saying what comes next is early algebra thinking. It also helps with counting, skip counting and reading numbers later on.

Does my child need to read the color words?

⌄

No. Each color word sits next to a crayon of that color for children to trace, so they learn the word while they work. An adult can read the words aloud the first time.

Is there an answer key for each worksheet?

⌄

Nine of the ten color patterns sheets have an answer key. The make your own pattern page has no key, since each child picks their own colors.

How many Kindergarten color patterns worksheets are there?

What age are color patterns worksheets for?

⌄
