How a Kangaroo Joey Grows Up, Order the Steps
Written by Adi Ackerman, Head Teacher
"How a Kangaroo Joey Grows Up, Order the Steps" is written for 2nd Grade (Ages 7-8). If your little one is a year younger but already steady on animals, the page still works. You may just need to read the instructions out loud. And if they are older and animal life cycles never quite stuck, this is a short review rather than busywork.

⌄
Order how a joey the size of a jelly bean crawls into the pouch, drinks milk and leaves for good. A mammal is an animal that feeds its babies milk. The directions on the page read: Read the passage. Then, turn the page, fill in the flow chart and answer the questions. On page 2: Write the steps from the Step Bank in boxes 1 to 4 in order. Then, circle the letter of the best answer for questions 5 and 6 and write the answer to question 7 on the lines. The answer key covers the questions on page 2.
Can I use this animal life cycles worksheet for homeschool or classroom?
⌄
Yes, both. We made it for 2nd Grade animals, and the page works the same whether it lands on a kitchen table or a center rotation. At home, most families go through it together and talk the answers out loud, and that talking is where most of the learning happens with animal life cycles. In class it runs well as independent work while you pull a small group. Print one copy or thirty, whichever the day needs.
What is a life cycle?
⌄
A life cycle is the set of stages an animal goes through as it grows. An ant has four stages, egg, larva, pupa and adult, and a dragonfly has three, egg, nymph and adult.
What is a nymph?
⌄
A nymph is a young insect, like a dragonfly or a grasshopper, that has no wings yet. It sheds its skin as it grows, about five times for a grasshopper, and it has wings once it is an adult.
Which animals hatch from eggs and which are born alive?
⌄
Robins, ducklings, turtles and alligators hatch from eggs. Puppies, kittens, foals and whale calves are born alive and drink their mother's milk. One sheet has children sort six baby animals into these two groups.
Is there an answer key for each worksheet?
⌄
Yes. All 14 animal life cycle sheets have an answer key.
