Plants That Need Little Water or Lots of Water, Read and Sort
Written by Adi Ackerman, Head Teacher
"Plants That Need Little Water or Lots of Water, Read and Sort" is written for 2nd Grade (Ages 7-8), and it covers NGSS 2-LS4-1. If your little one is a year younger but already steady on plants, the page still works. You may just need to read the instructions out loud. And if they are older and plant habitats never quite stuck, this is a short review rather than busywork.

How do I use this plant habitats worksheet?

What does this worksheet teach?
⌄
Read about desert and pond plants, then sort a cactus, aloe and yucca from a pond lily, rice and cattail. A desert is a dry place with very little rain. The directions on the page read: Read the passage. Then, turn the page, sort the cards and answer the questions. On page 2: Write each card from the Card Bank on a line in the column where it belongs, lines 1 to 6. Then, write the answers to questions 7 and 8 on the lines. The answer key covers the questions on page 2.
Can I use this plant habitats worksheet for homeschool or classroom?
⌄
Yes, both. We made it for 2nd Grade plants, and the page works the same whether it lands on a kitchen table or a center rotation. At home, most families go through it together and talk the answers out loud, and that talking is where most of the learning happens with plant habitats. In class it runs well as independent work while you pull a small group. Print one copy or thirty, whichever the day needs.
What is a plant habitat?
⌄
A habitat is the place where a plant lives and gets what it needs. A desert is a dry place with very little rain, and a pond has water all year. Each plant has a home that fits its needs, so a cactus would not grow well in a pond (2-LS4-1).
How do desert plants get by with little water?
⌄
Many store water. A cactus stores water in its thick stem, and an aloe plant stores it in its thick leaves. A yucca also grows in dry places with very little rain.
Do these worksheets have answer keys?
⌄
Yes. Both sheets have an answer key.
