Interview a Veteran

Written by Adi Ackerman, Head Teacher

"Interview a Veteran" is written for 4th Grade (Ages 9-10). If your little one is a year younger but already steady on History, the page still works. You may just need to read the instructions out loud. And if they are older and Veterans Day never quite stuck, this is a short review rather than busywork.

What does this worksheet teach?

⌄

Two pages of interview questions with lines for answers. Page 1 has spaces for the interviewer's and the veteran's names and questions 1 to 6, such as Which branch of the military did you serve in? and What was your job, and what skills did you learn? Page 2 has questions 7 to 11, such as What does Veterans Day mean to you?, a thank-you line and a date. The directions on the page read: Ask a veteran these questions. Write the answers on the lines.

Can I use this Veterans Day worksheet for homeschool or classroom?

⌄

Yes, both. We made it for 4th Grade History, and the page works the same whether it lands on a kitchen table or a center rotation. At home, most families go through it together and talk the answers out loud, and that talking is where most of the learning happens with Veterans Day. In class it runs well as independent work while you pull a small group. Print one copy or thirty, whichever the day needs.
