What a Park Ranger Does All Day, Read and Answer
Written by Adi Ackerman, Head Teacher
"What a Park Ranger Does All Day, Read and Answer" is written for 2nd Grade (Ages 7-8), and it covers C3 Framework D2.Civ.2.K-2. If your little one is a year younger but already steady on Community Helpers, the page still works. You may just need to read the instructions out loud. And if they are older and local helpers never quite stuck, this is a short review rather than busywork.

What does this worksheet teach?
⌄
Read how a park ranger's wide hat keeps off the sun and how rangers help lost hikers with maps. A park ranger is a person who takes care of a park and its visitors. The directions on the page read: Read the passage. Then, turn the page and answer the questions. On page 2: Circle the letter of the best answer for questions 1 to 3, and write the answers to questions 4 and 5 on the lines. The answer key covers the questions on page 2.
Can I use this local helpers worksheet for homeschool or classroom?
⌄
Yes, both. We made it for 2nd Grade Community Helpers, and the page works the same whether it lands on a kitchen table or a center rotation. At home, most families go through it together and talk the answers out loud, and that talking is where most of the learning happens with local helpers. In class it runs well as independent work while you pull a small group. Print one copy or thirty, whichever the day needs.
Who are the local helpers in a town?
⌄
A community helper is a person whose job helps the people in a town. The sheets cover a mail carrier, a doctor, a dentist, a vet, a librarian, a lifeguard, a crossing guard, sanitation workers, farmers, a baker, construction workers, a school bus driver, a park ranger, plumbers, electricians, nurses and pharmacists.
How does a letter get to your mailbox?
⌄
You write the address and add a stamp, then drop the letter in a blue mailbox. A mail carrier takes it to the post office, where machines and workers sort the mail by address. Then a mail carrier brings it to the right house.
How are a nurse and a pharmacist different?
⌄
A nurse cares for sick people in a hospital or a doctor's office and may use a thermometer or a stethoscope. A pharmacist works in a pharmacy, counts pills on a counting tray and explains how to take the medicine safely. Both help sick people get better.
Is there an answer key for each worksheet?
⌄
17 of the 18 local helpers sheets have an answer key. The older matching page does not.
