Fix the Wrong Quotients, Divide by 2 to 5

Written by Adi Ackerman, Head Teacher

"Fix the Wrong Quotients, Divide by 2 to 5" is written for 3rd Grade (Ages 8-9), and it covers Common Core 3.OA.C.7. If your little one is a year younger but already steady on division, the page still works. You may just need to read the instructions out loud. And if they are older and division facts never quite stuck, this is a short review rather than busywork.

Fix the Wrong Quotients, Divide by 2 to 5
Fix the Wrong Quotients, Divide by 2 to 5

3rd grade math worksheet: check 12 quotients for divisors 2 to 5, like 40 ÷ 4 = 12, mark the right ones and fix each wrong one. Answer key included. Part of our division facts collection. Aligned to Common Core standards.

How do I use this worksheet?

Before handing out the worksheet, briefly introduce the concept with a short oral warm-up or a visual model on the board. Let students work through it independently, using a partner or small group only if they want to talk through their thinking, encouraging them to talk through their thinking: "What strategy are you using? How do you know that is right?" After completing the worksheet, review any missed problems together and discuss the reasoning rather than just the answer. For extra support, let students use manipulatives or draw pictures alongside the written problems. These division facts worksheets work well as daily practice, homework, or a focused review activity.

What students will practice

  • Students will check 12 quotients for divisors 2 to 5.
  • Students will mark the right facts and put an X on wrong ones, like 40 ÷ 4 = 12.

FAQ

How do I use this division facts worksheet?

⌄

Before handing out the worksheet, briefly introduce the concept with a short oral warm-up or a visual model on the board. What does this worksheet teach?

⌄

Check 12 quotients for divisors 2 to 5, like 40 ÷ 4 = 12, mark the right ones and fix each wrong one. To check a quotient, multiply it by the divisor to get the dividend. The directions on the page read: Check each quotient. Then, make a check mark in the box if it is right. If it is wrong, put an X on it and write the right quotient in the box. An answer key is included.

Can I use this division facts worksheet for homeschool or classroom?

⌄

Yes, both. We made it for 3rd Grade division, and the page works the same whether it lands on a kitchen table or a center rotation. At home, most families go through it together and talk the answers out loud, and that talking is where most of the learning happens with division facts. In class it runs well as independent work while you pull a small group. Print one copy or thirty, whichever the day needs.

How can my child check a division answer?

⌄

Multiply the quotient by the divisor. If the product is the dividend, the answer is right. For 63 divided by 9 equals 8, 8 times 9 is 72, not 63, so the right quotient is 7.

Why do different facts have the same quotient?

⌄

Different dividends and divisors can give the same answer: 12 divided by 3, 16 divided by 4 and 32 divided by 8 all equal 4. Sort Division Facts by Quotient and Circle the Facts With the Same Quotient build on this.

What is a cross number puzzle?

⌄

A crossword with numbers. Each clue is a fact, such as 6 times 9 or a number divided by 8 equals 9, and each digit of the answer goes in its own square, across or down.

Is there an answer key for each worksheet?

⌄

Yes. All 11 sheets have an answer key.

What division concepts should third graders learn?

⌄

Third graders learn that division means splitting into equal groups or finding how many groups. Per CCSS 3.OA.A.2, they should interpret whole-number quotients and solve division word problems within 100. They should understand division as the inverse of multiplication.

How do you introduce division to third graders?

⌄

Start with sharing equally: give 12 items to 3 people, how many does each get? Use concrete objects, then pictures, then equations. Worksheets with visual division (circling equal groups) bridge the concrete-to-abstract gap effectively.

How do I know if my child is fluent with division facts?

⌄

Fluent means a fact comes quickly and correctly without counting. The two minute drills hold 30 or 36 facts, and Division Fact Fluency Check, 40 Facts lists each missed fact to practice. CCSS 3.OA.C.7 expects fluency within 100 by the end of 3rd grade.
