What does this worksheet teach?
⌄
Solve a crossword where each clue is a synonym, like start for begin and yell for shout. A synonym is a word that means the same or almost the same as another word. Each clue gives a synonym of the answer. The directions on the page read: Read each Across and Down clue. Then, find the answer in the word bank and write it in the boxes that start at the clue's number, one letter in each box. An answer key is included.
Can I use this vocabulary crosswords worksheet for homeschool or classroom?
⌄
Yes, both. We made it for 4th Grade vocabulary, and the page works the same whether it lands on a kitchen table or a center rotation. At home, most families go through it together and talk the answers out loud, and that talking is where most of the learning happens with vocabulary crosswords. In class it runs well as independent work while you pull a small group. Print one copy or thirty, whichever the day needs.
What is a vocabulary crossword?
⌄
It is a crossword where each clue is a short definition of a word the child is learning, like A living thing that makes its own food, like a plant for producer. The child finds the word in the word bank and writes it in the boxes, one letter in each box.
How do crosswords help 4th graders learn subject words?
⌄
The child has to know what a word means to choose it, and the crossing letters show at once if a word is wrong. The ecosystem, government and math puzzles use the words 4th graders meet in science, social studies and math, such as habitat, mayor and estimate (CCSS L.4.6).
What is the synonym clue crossword?
⌄
Every clue on Synonym Clues Crossword is another word for the answer, so wet leads to damp, mad leads to angry and fearless leads to brave. It practices words that mean almost the same thing (CCSS L.4.5.C).
Is there an answer key for each crossword?
⌄
Yes. All 4 vocabulary crosswords have an answer key with every box filled in.
