3rd Grade Compare and Contrast Worksheets

Ages 8-9 · 2 sub-topics · Free previews · Print-ready PDFs

These compare and contrast worksheets for 3rd grade put two short texts side by side on page one. In the story pages, both stories share the same characters, like Pip the puppy, Mo and Grandpa, Rosa and her food truck, the twins Ada and Ben, or Captain Fluff the cat, and children fill in a Venn diagram with three differences on each side and three ways the stories are alike (CCSS RL.3.9). In the informational pages, two texts cover one topic, such as hummingbirds, hibernating bears and wood frogs, bread around the world, pandas or fossils, and children list three key points from each text and write a fact found in only one (RI.3.9). Ten original sheets, each with an answer key.

Frequently Asked Questions

To compare is to tell how two things are alike. To contrast is to tell how they are different. A Venn diagram shows both, with what is alike in the middle and the differences in the outside parts.
