Fix the Misspelled Sight Words
Written by Adi Ackerman, Head Teacher
"Fix the Misspelled Sight Words" is written for 3rd Grade (Ages 8-9), and it covers Common Core L.3.2.E. If your little one is a year younger but already steady on spelling, the page still works. You may just need to read the instructions out loud. And if they are older and sight word spelling never quite stuck, this is a short review rather than busywork.

FAQ
How do I use this sight word spelling worksheet?
⌄
Do one list at a time and talk about the tricky part of each word before your child folds and writes it. Use the sentence, proofreading and story pages a few days later as review. Check with the answer key.
What does this worksheet teach?
⌄
Proofread a note about building a fort and fix 8 misspelled sight words like friend and special. A sight word is a word we must remember. To proofread is to find and fix mistakes. One mistake is a real word used in the wrong place. The directions on the page read: Read the note. Cross out each of the 8 misspelled words. Then, write each word correctly on a numbered line, in the order you find them. An answer key is included.
Can I use this sight word spelling worksheet for homeschool or classroom?
⌄
Yes, both. We made it for 3rd Grade spelling, and the page works the same whether it lands on a kitchen table or a center rotation. At home, most families go through it together and talk the answers out loud, and that talking is where most of the learning happens with sight word spelling. In class it runs well as independent work while you pull a small group. Print one copy or thirty, whichever the day needs.
What makes a sight word hard to spell?
⌄
Part of the word does not follow the usual sound rules, like the gh in laugh, the w in whole or the u in busy. Children learn to spot that tricky part and remember it.
Which words are on the four lists?
⌄
List A has words like because, through, guess and tongue, List B words like laugh, eight, people and sugar, List C words like friend, says, country and heart, and List D words like special, built, piece and question.
How does the proofreading page work?
⌄
Children read a short note about building a fort, cross out 8 misspelled sight words and write each one correctly. One mistake is a real word used in the wrong place, so they must read for meaning too.
Is there an answer key for each worksheet?
⌄
Yes. All 8 sight word spelling sheets have an answer key.
