How Your Skin Protects Your Body, Read and Answer

Written by Adi Ackerman, Head Teacher

"How Your Skin Protects Your Body, Read and Answer" is written for 5th Grade (Ages 10-11). If your little one is a year younger but already steady on living things, the page still works. You may just need to read the instructions out loud. And if they are older and human body systems never quite stuck, this is a short review rather than busywork.

FAQ

How do I use this human body systems worksheet?

⌄

Have your child find the body part on their own body before each page, such as feeling their ribs rise as they breathe. On the order the steps pages, read the passage for words like first, next and finally. Check with the answer key.

What does this worksheet teach?

⌄

Read how skin keeps germs out and water in, cools the body with sweat and senses touch through nerves. A pore is a tiny opening in your skin. The directions on the page read: Read the passage. Then, turn the page and answer the questions. On page 2: Circle the letter of the best answer for questions 1 to 3, and write the answers to questions 4 to 6 on the lines. The answer key covers the questions on page 2.

Can I use this human body systems worksheet for homeschool or classroom?

⌄

Yes, both. We made it for 5th Grade living things, and the page works the same whether it lands on a kitchen table or a center rotation. At home, most families go through it together and talk the answers out loud, and that talking is where most of the learning happens with human body systems. In class it runs well as independent work while you pull a small group. Print one copy or thirty, whichever the day needs.

What are the main body systems 5th graders learn?

⌄

Usually the skeletal, muscular, respiratory, circulatory, digestive, excretory and nervous systems. Each is a group of organs with one main job, and the systems team up to keep the body alive and moving.

How do the heart and lungs work together?

⌄

The lungs take in oxygen from the air. The heart pumps blood through the lungs to pick up oxygen, then out to the body, and the blood brings back carbon dioxide for the lungs to breathe out.

How do the senses send messages to the brain?

⌄

Receptors in the eyes, ears, nose, tongue and skin detect light, sound, chemicals, pressure and heat. Nerves carry the message to the brain, which decides what to do and sends a message to the muscles. A ruler drop test measures how long that takes.

Is there an answer key for each worksheet?

⌄

Yes. All fourteen human body sheets have an answer key that shows every answer, including sample answers for the questions children explain in their own words.

How many 5th Grade human body systems worksheets are there?

⌄

These are written for 5th Grade students, roughly ages 10-11. Many teachers also use them a grade up for review or a grade down as an extension, so use the preview to judge the fit for a particular child.
