Parts of a Garden Snail, Read and Label

Written by Adi Ackerman, Head Teacher

"Parts of a Garden Snail, Read and Label" is written for 4th Grade (Ages 9-10), and it covers NGSS 4-LS1-1. If your little one is a year younger but already steady on living things, the page still works. You may just need to read the instructions out loud. And if they are older and animal structures never quite stuck, this is a short review rather than busywork.

FAQ

How do I use this animal structures worksheet?

⌄

Have your child find each bold word in the passage before labeling the diagram. Ask what would happen if the animal lost that part. Check with the answer key.

What does this worksheet teach?

⌄

Read about a garden snail, then label its shell, foot, tentacles, eyes and breathing hole. An animal's body parts are structures. Each structure has a job that helps the animal live. The directions on the page read: Read the passage. Look at the bold words that name the body parts. Then, turn the page to label the diagram and answer the questions. On page 2: In Part A, write each Word Bank word at the end of its leader. Then, circle the best answer for questions 1 and 2, and write answers 3 and 4 on the lines. The answer key covers the questions on page 2.

Can I use this animal structures worksheet for homeschool or classroom?

⌄

Yes, both. We made it for 4th Grade living things, and the page works the same whether it lands on a kitchen table or a center rotation. At home, most families go through it together and talk the answers out loud, and that talking is where most of the learning happens with animal structures. In class it runs well as independent work while you pull a small group. Print one copy or thirty, whichever the day needs.

What is the difference between internal and external structures?

⌄

Internal structures are inside the body, like bones, a heart, lungs and gills. External structures are on the outside, like fur, scales, a shell, claws and antennae. One sheet has students sort twelve cards into the two groups.

Which animals do these sheets cover?

⌄

Birds, fish, a grasshopper, a garden snail, an earthworm, a jellyfish, a squid, a cheetah, a firefly, a lobster and a crocodile, plus two pages on animal structures and the inside of the body.

Which standard do these sheets support?

⌄

They support 4-LS1-1, which asks 4th graders to argue that plants and animals have internal and external structures that help them survive, grow, behave and reproduce. Each passage names a structure and its job.

Is there an answer key for each worksheet?

⌄

Yes. All fifteen animal structures sheets have an answer key.

How many 4th Grade animal structures worksheets are there?

⌄

15 printable worksheets, all free to preview. Downloads are included with a ClassWeekly free trial, and every page prints on standard 8.5 x 11 paper.

What age are animal structures worksheets for?

⌄

These are written for 4th Grade students, roughly ages 9-10. Many teachers also use them a grade up for review or a grade down as an extension, so use the preview to judge the fit for a particular child.

Are these animal structures worksheets aligned to NGSS?

⌄

Yes. Each one shows the NGSS code it covers on its own page, so you can check the alignment yourself rather than taking our word for it.
