Written by Adi Ackerman, Head Teacher
"Veterans Day Color by Number Multiplication" is written for 3rd Grade (Ages 8-9), and it covers Common Core 3.OA.C.7. If your little one is a year younger but already steady on multiplication, the page still works. You may just need to read the instructions out loud. And if they are older and multiplication facts never quite stuck, this is a short review rather than busywork.

3rd grade math worksheet: solve 20 multiplication facts and color a star and stripes heart picture by products from 12 to 40. Answer key included. Part of our multiplication facts collection. Aligned to Common Core standards.

FAQ
How do I use this multiplication facts worksheet?
⌄
Print the page and read the directions with your child: Solve each fact. Find the product in the key. Color that part. When they finish, check the work together with the answer key.
What does this worksheet teach?
⌄
A color by number picture of a heart with stars and stripes, made of spaces that each hold a multiplication fact, such as 2 × 9, 5 × 8 and 6 × 6. A color key matches six products to six colors: 30 dark blue, 12 yellow, 24 red, 36 pink, 40 purple and 18 light blue. The directions on the page read: Solve each fact. Find the product in the key. Color that part. An answer key is included.
Can I use this multiplication facts worksheet for homeschool or classroom?
⌄
Yes, both. We made it for 3rd Grade multiplication, and the page works the same whether it lands on a kitchen table or a center rotation. At home, most families go through it together and talk the answers out loud, and that talking is where most of the learning happens with multiplication facts. In class it runs well as independent work while you pull a small group. Print one copy or thirty, whichever the day needs.
By the end of 3rd grade, which multiplication facts should students know from memory?
⌄
The Common Core standard 3.OA.7 requires fluency with all products of one-digit numbers (the full 10×10 multiplication table) - these worksheets provide the practice needed to reach that benchmark.
How does multiplication fact fluency support work with fractions in later grades?
⌄
Simplifying fractions, finding common denominators, and working with equivalent fractions all depend on quick recall of multiplication and division facts - automaticity now saves significant time later.
What is the difference between knowing a fact and being fluent with it?
⌄
Knowing a fact means a student can eventually produce the correct answer; fluency means retrieving it instantly (within 3 seconds) without counting or derivation - the latter is the 3rd grade goal.
When should third graders know their multiplication tables?
⌄
By the end of third grade, students should know all multiplication facts for single-digit numbers from memory (CCSS 3.OA.C.7). Most curricula introduce multiplication early in third grade, building from repeated addition, arrays, and equal groups before moving to memorization.
What is the best order to teach multiplication facts?
⌄
Start with 2s, 5s, and 10s (patterns make them easier), then 0s and 1s (identity properties). Next teach 3s and 4s, followed by 6s, 7s, 8s, and 9s. By this point, students already know many facts from the commutative property. Multiplication worksheets organized by factor help target specific fact families.
How can I help my third grader memorize multiplication facts?
⌄
Combine understanding with practice. First ensure your child understands multiplication as groups of (3x4 = 3 groups of 4). Then use skip counting, arrays, and worksheets for repeated practice. Short daily sessions of 5-10 minutes are more effective than occasional long sessions.
Which properties of multiplication do 3rd graders use?
⌄
The commutative property (4 x 9 = 9 x 4), the associative property (group three factors any way) and the distributive property (7 x 8 is 5 x 8 plus 2 x 8). CCSS 3.OA.B.5 asks students to use them as strategies, and the properties of multiplication worksheets practice each one, along with multiplying by 0 and 1.
