Written by Adi Ackerman, Head Teacher

A soft c says s, as in city, and a soft g says j, as in giant, while a hard c says k and a hard g says g, as in cat and goat. Both letters are usually soft before e, i or y and hard before a, o or u. These soft c and g worksheets for 2nd grade hold 12 sheets, each with an answer key (CCSS RF.2.3 and L.2.2.D). Children sort words like cup and city or goat and giraffe under hard or soft, circle the letter after c or g to decide its sound, sort soft c words under ce, ci or cy and soft g endings under dge or ge, and finish sentences with words like circle, bridge and badge. A word search and two pick the spelling pages, with words like page and city, round out the set.
