A spelling crossword gives a clue for each word, and the child writes the word in the numbered Across or Down boxes, so every letter where two words cross has to be spelled right. These spelling crosswords for 5th grade hold 6 sheets, each with an answer key and a 10 word bank (CCSS L.5.2.E). The puzzles practice able and ible words like valuable and flexible, ance and ence words like allowance and patience, ment and ness nouns like equipment and kindness, and cian and ist job words like electrician and pianist. Two more cover commonly misspelled words like February, rhythm and necessary and homophones, where the clue decides between words like principal and stationery.
