Written by Adi Ackerman, Head Teacher

Reading fluency is reading smoothly, at a good speed and with expression. These reading fluency worksheets for 1st grade hold 10 sheets, each with an answer key (CCSS RF.1.4.B). Six passage pages, like Our Garden, The Busy Ant and Owl at Night, print a 65 to 71 word passage with a running word count at the end of each line, so an adult can time one minute of each of 3 reads and record words read and errors. Four phrase pages, like Frogs Can and At the Beach, split a 25 to 30 word passage into phrases with a slash at each pause. Page 2 has children reread phrases or same start sentences 3 times, answer multiple choice questions from the passage and write their own sentences.
