An adult reads the directions aloud. Before tracing, have your child say the letter name and the picture word, so sound and shape go together. Two pages make a natural split across two short sessions. Slip the pages into a sheet protector and use a dry erase marker to trace again and again, or print a fresh copy for a second practice round.
