A sensory detail tells what you see, hear, smell, taste or feel, and it is the building block of a describing poem. These poem writing worksheets for 2nd grade hold 10 sheets. On nine, children read a short model poem by a made-up student, such as A Day at the Beach or Red, list words or sense details, then finish six lines that start with I see, Blue sounds like or It feels and end with the topic. Topics are fall, spring in a city park, the colors blue and green, popcorn, pancakes, a rocket, a kitten and a frog. The tenth sheet sorts nine bold words from a poem about a fair into See, Hear and Feel and has an answer key. The pages support L.2.5.A (connecting words to real life, like describing foods as crunchy or sweet).

Frequently Asked Questions

Each line starts with a sense, I see, I hear, I smell, I taste and I feel, and the last line names the topic. The fall and spring sheets use this frame after a model about the beach or a snowy morning.
