FAQ

How do I use this decimal word problems worksheet?

⌄

Have students underline what each problem asks and list the steps before they compute. Ask them to estimate first, then compare the estimate with the exact answer.

What does this worksheet teach?

⌄

Solve 4 decimal problems about babysitting pay, weekly savings, a shared dinner bill and a budget. The directions on the page read: Solve each problem. Show your work in the space under it. Write money to the cent and weeks as a whole number. An answer key is included.

Can I use this decimal word problems worksheet for homeschool or classroom?

⌄

Yes, both. We made it for 6th Grade decimal multiplication, and the page works the same whether it lands on a kitchen table or a center rotation. At home, most families go through it together and talk the answers out loud, and that talking is where most of the learning happens with decimal word problems. In class it runs well as independent work while you pull a small group. Print one copy or thirty, whichever the day needs.

How do you solve a multi-step decimal word problem?

⌄

Plan the steps before you compute. Kwame has $50 and buys 2 shirts at $12.95 and socks for $6.49, so multiply, add to get $32.39, then subtract to get $17.61 left.

How do you divide by a decimal in a word problem?

⌄

Move the decimal point in both numbers the same number of places so the divisor is a whole number. 12.6 ÷ 0.35 becomes 1,260 ÷ 35 = 36 bottles.

Is there an answer key?

⌄

Yes. All 4 decimal word problem sheets have an answer key with money written to the cent and measurements with their units.
