Written by Adi Ackerman, Head Teacher

"Long Division by 1-Digit Numbers Without Remainders" is written for 6th Grade (Ages 11-12), and it covers Common Core 6.NS.B.2. If your student is a year younger but already steady on multiplication & division, the page still works. You may just need to read the instructions out loud. FAQ

How do I use this long division worksheet?

⌄

Start with the exact problems so students trust the steps, then add remainders. Have students check each answer by multiplying the quotient by the divisor.

What does this worksheet teach?

⌄

Divide 9 three and four digit numbers like 1,737 ÷ 3 and 4,285 ÷ 5 with no remainders. The directions on the page read: Divide. Show your work under each problem. Each answer is a whole number. An answer key is included.

Can I use this long division worksheet for homeschool or classroom?

⌄

Yes, both. We made it for 6th Grade multiplication & division, and the page works the same whether it lands on a kitchen table or a center rotation. At home, most families go through it together and talk the answers out loud, and that talking is where most of the learning happens with long division. In class it runs well as independent work while you pull a small group. Print one copy or thirty, whichever the day needs.

What are the steps of long division?

⌄

Divide, multiply, subtract and bring down, then repeat until every digit is used. Whatever is left is the remainder, so 9,880 ÷ 25 = 395 R 5.

How do you divide by a 2-digit divisor?

⌄

Estimate each digit of the quotient by rounding the divisor, like using 60 for 57. Multiply, subtract and adjust if the estimate is too big. 8,420 ÷ 57 = 147 R 41.

How do you check a long division answer?

⌄

Multiply the quotient by the divisor and add the remainder. For 83,075 ÷ 7 = 11,867 R 6, 11,867 × 7 + 6 = 83,075.
