Written by Adi Ackerman, Head Teacher

A spelling list is a short set of words that share a pattern, so practicing one pattern helps with many words. These spelling list practice worksheets for 1st grade hold 3 sheets, each with an answer key (CCSS L.1.2.D). Each list has 10 words to read, say, write, fold, cover and spell: sh and ch words like ship, fish, chin and lunch, ng and nk words like king, song, pink and trunk, and ee and ea words like green, sleep, dream and leaf. Two sentences at the bottom of each page use list words.

Frequently Asked Questions

One list practices the digraphs sh and ch, one the endings ng and nk, and one the vowel teams ee and ea, which both spell long e, as in bee and bean.
