A spelling crossword gives a clue for each word, and the child writes the word in the numbered Across or Down boxes, so every letter where two words cross has to be spelled right. These spelling crosswords for 4th grade hold 6 sheets, each with an answer key and a 10 word bank (CCSS L.4.2.D). Each puzzle practices one pattern: tion and sion words like vacation and television, silent letter words like knight and wreath, ous and ture words like generous and furniture, ie and ei words like believe and ceiling, ph and gh words like dolphin and cough, and prefix words with un, re, dis, mis and pre like rebuild and mislead. The clues are short definitions, such as A cream you rub on dry skin for lotion.
