Use Division to Find the Missing Factor

Written by Adi Ackerman, Head Teacher

"Use Division to Find the Missing Factor" is written for 6th Grade (Ages 11-12), and it covers Common Core 6.NS.B.2. If your student is a year younger but already steady on multiplication & division, the page still works. You may just need to read the instructions out loud. And if they are older and missing dividend, divisor or factor never quite stuck, this is a short review rather than busywork.

FAQ

How do I use this missing dividend, divisor or factor worksheet?

⌄

Ask students to say which operation undoes the one in the equation before they start. Have them check by putting the answer back into the equation.

What does this worksheet teach?

⌄

Find the missing factor in 8 equations like 54 × a blank = 10,692 by dividing the product. The directions on the page read: Divide the product by the known factor to find the missing factor. Use the space under each equation to divide. An answer key is included.

Can I use this missing dividend, divisor or factor worksheet for homeschool or classroom?

⌄

Yes, both. We made it for 6th Grade multiplication & division, and the page works the same whether it lands on a kitchen table or a center rotation. At home, most families go through it together and talk the answers out loud, and that talking is where most of the learning happens with missing dividend, divisor or factor. In class it runs well as independent work while you pull a small group. Print one copy or thirty, whichever the day needs.

How do you find a missing dividend?

⌄

Multiply the divisor by the quotient. If a number ÷ 8 = 647, the number is 8 × 647 = 5,176.

How do you find a missing divisor?

⌄

Divide the dividend by the quotient. If 1,702 divided by a number is 37, the divisor is 1,702 ÷ 37 = 46.

How do you find a missing factor?

⌄

Divide the product by the known factor. If 54 times a number is 10,692, the missing factor is 10,692 ÷ 54 = 198.
