Solve Proportions With Decimal Terms
Written by Adi Ackerman, Head Teacher
"Solve Proportions With Decimal Terms" is written for 6th Grade (Ages 11-12). If your student is a year younger but already steady on ratios, the page still works. You may just need to read the instructions out loud. And if they are older and proportions never quite stuck, this is a short review rather than busywork.

6th grade math worksheet: solve 6 proportions with decimal terms like 20.7 and 23.7, rounding to the nearest hundredth. Answer key included. Part of our proportions ratios collection.
How do I use this worksheet?

FAQ
How do I use this proportions worksheet?
⌄
Start with the whole number page, where every answer comes out even, then move to rounding and decimal terms. On the word problem pages, check that each student keeps the units lined up before cross multiplying.
What does this worksheet teach?
⌄
Solve 6 proportions with decimal terms like 20.7 and 23.7, rounding to the nearest hundredth. The directions on the page read: Solve each proportion. Cross multiply, then divide. Show your work in the space under it. Round to the nearest hundredth. An answer key is included.
Can I use this proportions worksheet for homeschool or classroom?
⌄
Yes, both. We made it for 6th Grade ratios, and the page works the same whether it lands on a kitchen table or a center rotation. At home, most families go through it together and talk the answers out loud, and that talking is where most of the learning happens with proportions. In class it runs well as independent work while you pull a small group. Print one copy or thirty, whichever the day needs.
How do you solve a proportion by cross multiplying?
⌄
Multiply each numerator by the other denominator, set the products equal, then divide. For 12/10 = 6/a, 12 × a = 10 × 6 = 60, so a = 5.
What if the answer is not a whole number?
⌄
Divide and round as the page asks. On Solve Proportions and Round to Tenths, 20/32 = x/46 gives x = 28.75, which rounds to 28.8.
How do you write a proportion for a word problem?
⌄
Keep the same units in the same places in both ratios. A soup uses 3 cups of broth for 4 people, so 3/4 = x/28 for 28 people, and x = 21 cups.
