Graph Ratio Tables on the Coordinate Plane

Written by Adi Ackerman, Head Teacher

"Graph Ratio Tables on the Coordinate Plane" is written for 6th Grade (Ages 11-12), and it covers Common Core 6.RP.A.3.A. If your student is a year younger but already steady on ratios, the page still works. You may just need to read the instructions out loud. And if they are older and ratio tables and equivalent ratios never quite stuck, this is a short review rather than busywork.

FAQ

How do I use this ratio tables and equivalent ratios worksheet?

⌄

Begin with Complete Ratio Tables, then use the yes or no page as a quick check. Save the graphing and comparing pages for students who can already fill a table without help.

What does this worksheet teach?

⌄

Complete 2 ratio tables like Sam earning $24 for 2 hours and graph the pairs on a grid. The directions on the page read: Complete each table of equivalent ratios. Plot each pair as a point on the grid. Then answer the questions. An answer key is included.

Can I use this ratio tables and equivalent ratios worksheet for homeschool or classroom?

⌄

Yes, both. We made it for 6th Grade ratios, and the page works the same whether it lands on a kitchen table or a center rotation. At home, most families go through it together and talk the answers out loud, and that talking is where most of the learning happens with ratio tables and equivalent ratios. In class it runs well as independent work while you pull a small group. Print one copy or thirty, whichever the day needs.

How do you complete a ratio table?

⌄

Multiply or divide both quantities by the same number. If 2 cups of flour make 15 cookies, then 4 cups make 30 and 12 cups make 90.

How can you tell if two ratios are equivalent?

⌄

Check whether one ratio becomes the other when both terms are multiplied or divided by the same number. 12 : 20 and 3 : 5 are equivalent because both terms of 12 : 20 divide by 4, but 3 : 8 and 9 : 16 are not.

Why graph a ratio table?

⌄

Each column becomes a point, and the points line up in a straight line from the origin. On Graph Ratio Tables on the Coordinate Plane, the point (1, 12) means Sam earns $12 for 1 hour of work.
