Spelling Review of Six Rules

Written by Adi Ackerman, Head Teacher

"Spelling Review of Six Rules" is written for 6th Grade (Ages 11-12), and it covers Common Core L.6.2.B. If your student is a year younger but already steady on spelling, the page still works. You may just need to read the instructions out loud. And if they are older and identify correct spelling never quite stuck, this is a short review rather than busywork.

FAQ

How do I use this identify correct spelling worksheet?

⌄

Start with Find the Misspelled Word, then move to the longer texts. Use Spelling Review of Six Rules after the rule sheets for word endings, doubling and ie and ei.

What does this worksheet teach?

⌄

Spell 18 words with six rules, from doubling to plurals, and name the rule used for each. The directions on the page read: Read the six rule boxes. Follow each task to spell a new word and write it on the first line. On the second line, write the letter (A to F) of the rule you used. An answer key is included.

Can I use this identify correct spelling worksheet for homeschool or classroom?

⌄

Yes, both. We made it for 6th Grade spelling, and the page works the same whether it lands on a kitchen table or a center rotation. At home, most families go through it together and talk the answers out loud, and that talking is where most of the learning happens with identify correct spelling. In class it runs well as independent work while you pull a small group. Print one copy or thirty, whichever the day needs.

How many errors are on each proofreading sheet?

⌄

Proofread Sentences for Spelling has 18, the paragraph and the science report have 10 each and the email has 12, including 2 confused words.

What are confused words?

⌄

They are real words used in the wrong place. In Proofread an Email for Spelling, are should be our and their should be there.

What rules does the review sheet cover?

⌄

Spelling Review of Six Rules covers doubling, drop e, y to i, ie or ei, able or ible and plurals. Students write the letter of the rule for each of 18 words.
