Principles of the Constitution
Written by Adi Ackerman, Head Teacher
"Principles of the Constitution" is written for 6th Grade (Ages 11-12), and it covers C3 Framework D2.Civ.3.6-8. If your student is a year younger but already steady on The Constitution and Bill of Rights, the page still works. You may just need to read the instructions out loud. And if they are older and constitution principles never quite stuck, this is a short review rather than busywork.

Can I use this constitution principles worksheet for homeschool or classroom?
⌄
Yes, both. We made it for 6th Grade The Constitution and Bill of Rights, and the page works the same whether it lands on a kitchen table or a center rotation. At home, most families go through it together and talk the answers out loud, and that talking is where most of the learning happens with constitution principles. In class it runs well as independent work while you pull a small group. Print one copy or thirty, whichever the day needs.
What does popular sovereignty mean?
⌄
Popular sovereignty means the people hold the power. The government gets its authority from the people, who choose their leaders by voting.
What does Posterity mean in the Preamble?

Posterity means future generations. The Preamble Line by Line also asks students for the meanings of Tranquility, domestic and Welfare.
What was the Three-Fifths Compromise?
⌄
It counted three out of every five enslaved people when deciding a state's representation and taxes. The rule gave slaveholding states extra power in Congress and treated enslaved people as less than whole people. It lasted until after the Civil War.
