A fable is a short story where animal characters learn a lesson. On the planner where two animals trade jobs, children show the lesson through what the animals do instead of stating it.

How do the one-page story planners work?

Each planner opens with a short model on a different topic, then gives the child's topic and labeled boxes for characters, events and an ending. Children fill each box with a few words or a sentence, then write the draft on lined paper.

Is there an answer key?

No. Every child writes a different story, so there is no single right answer. Check that each box is filled in and that the draft follows the plan.
