FAQ
How do I use this divide fractions worksheet?
⌄
Start with Whole Numbers Divided by Fractions, where every answer is whole, then move to fractions by fractions. Finish with the mixed review.
What does this worksheet teach?
⌄
Divide 12 pairs of fractions such as 9/10 ÷ 3/4 by multiplying by the reciprocal of the divisor. The directions on the page read: Divide. Write each answer in simplest form. Write improper fractions as mixed numbers. An answer key is included.
Can I use this divide fractions worksheet for homeschool or classroom?
⌄
Yes, both. We made it for 6th Grade fraction multiplication & division, and the page works the same whether it lands on a kitchen table or a center rotation. At home, most families go through it together and talk the answers out loud, and that talking is where most of the learning happens with divide fractions. In class it runs well as independent work while you pull a small group. Print one copy or thirty, whichever the day needs.
Why do you multiply by the reciprocal to divide fractions?
⌄
Dividing asks how many groups of the divisor fit, and multiplying by the reciprocal gives that count. For 3 ÷ 1/4, there are 4 quarters in each whole, so 3 × 4 = 12.
What is keep, change, flip?
⌄
It is a short name for the reciprocal method: keep the first fraction, change ÷ to ×, and flip the second fraction. 2/5 ÷ 3/4 becomes 2/5 × 4/3 = 8/15.
Do the divide fractions worksheets have answer keys?
⌄
Yes. All 3 sheets have an answer key, and quotients greater than 1 are written as mixed numbers.
