FAQ

How do I use this multiply mixed numbers worksheet?

⌄

Begin with Multiply Mixed Numbers by Fractions, then move to two mixed numbers. Have students write the improper fractions first for each problem.

What does this worksheet teach?

⌄

Multiply 10 pairs of mixed numbers like 2 1/4 × 3 1/2 after rewriting each as an improper fraction. The directions on the page read: Multiply. Write each answer in simplest form, as a mixed number when it is more than 1. An answer key is included.

Can I use this multiply mixed numbers worksheet for homeschool or classroom?

⌄

Yes, both. We made it for 6th Grade fraction multiplication & division, and the page works the same whether it lands on a kitchen table or a center rotation. At home, most families go through it together and talk the answers out loud, and that talking is where most of the learning happens with multiply mixed numbers. In class it runs well as independent work while you pull a small group. Print one copy or thirty, whichever the day needs.

How do you multiply mixed numbers?

⌄

Rewrite each mixed number as an improper fraction, multiply, then simplify. For 1 1/2 × 1 1/3, that is 3/2 × 4/3 = 2.

Can you multiply the whole numbers and fractions separately?

⌄

No. Multiplying the parts separately gives the wrong product. Use improper fractions, as in 2 1/2 × 3/4 = 5/2 × 3/4 = 1 7/8.

Do these worksheets have answer keys?

⌄

Yes. Both sheets have an answer key with every product in simplest form.
