Electric Circuits
Written by Adi Ackerman, Head Teacher
"Electric Circuits" is written for 6th Grade (Ages 11-12). If your student is a year younger but already steady on energy, the page still works. You may just need to read the instructions out loud. And if they are older and electricity and magnetism never quite stuck, this is a short review rather than busywork.

6th grade science worksheet: label a circuit, then predict which bulbs stay lit in series and parallel circuits with switches. Answer key included. Part of our electricity and magnetism energy collection.
How do I use this worksheet?
Have students trace each path with a finger before they answer which bulbs stay lit. On the magnet sheet, ask students to find the pattern in the table before they predict 50 coils.
What students will practice
- Students will label the battery, switch, bulb and wire in a circuit drawing.
- Students will identify circuits as series or parallel from their diagrams.
- Students will predict which bulbs stay lit when a bulb is removed or a switch moves.

FAQ
How do I use this electricity and magnetism worksheet?
⌄
Have students trace each path with a finger before they answer which bulbs stay lit. On the magnet sheet, ask students to find the pattern in the table before they predict 50 coils.
What does this worksheet teach?
⌄
Label a circuit, then predict which bulbs stay lit in series and parallel circuits with switches. The directions on the page read: Read the text and study the symbols. Write the bank word for each numbered part of Circuit A on its line. An answer key is included.
Can I use this electricity and magnetism worksheet for homeschool or classroom?
⌄
Yes, both. We made it for 6th Grade energy, and the page works the same whether it lands on a kitchen table or a center rotation. At home, most families go through it together and talk the answers out loud, and that talking is where most of the learning happens with electricity and magnetism. In class it runs well as independent work while you pull a small group. Print one copy or thirty, whichever the day needs.
What happens when a bulb is removed from a parallel circuit?
⌄
Current still flows through the other branches, so those bulbs stay lit. In a series circuit there is only one path, so every bulb goes out.
Do opposite poles attract or repel?
⌄
Opposite poles attract, and like poles repel. A north pole attracts a south pole, but two north poles push apart.
How do you make an electromagnet stronger?
⌄
More coils of wire make an electromagnet stronger. In the table on Magnets and Magnetic Fields, each 10 more coils lift 3 more paper clips.
