Ages 11-12 · 1 sub-topic · Free previews · Print-ready PDFs

Elections are how citizens choose the people who represent them, from school board members to the president. There are 4 worksheets for 6th grade, each with an answer key. How Elections Work explains the steps from registering to counting, and The Electoral College and Census Data and House Seats add tables and math. The tables on those two sheets and on Reading Election Results use fictional places made for practice.

Voters in each state choose electors, who cast the official votes for president. A state gets one elector for each House seat plus two for its senators, and Washington, D.C., gets three. There are 538 electors in all, so a candidate needs at least 270 to win.
