Natural Resources Around the World
Written by Adi Ackerman, Head Teacher
"Natural Resources Around the World" is written for 6th Grade (Ages 11-12). If your student is a year younger but already steady on World Geography and Regions, the page still works. You may just need to read the instructions out loud. And if they are older and physical features and resources never quite stuck, this is a short review rather than busywork.

What does this worksheet teach?
⌄
Draw a pie chart of world coffee production, then explain trade with exports and imports. The directions on the page read: Read the text and study the table. Then make the pie chart and answer the questions on page 2. An answer key is included.
Can I use this physical features and resources worksheet for homeschool or classroom?
⌄
Yes, both. We made it for 6th Grade World Geography and Regions, and the page works the same whether it lands on a kitchen table or a center rotation. At home, most families go through it together and talk the answers out loud, and that talking is where most of the learning happens with physical features and resources. In class it runs well as independent work while you pull a small group. Print one copy or thirty, whichever the day needs.
Which rivers and mountain ranges are on the map?
⌄
The rivers are the Amazon, Danube, Ganges, Mississippi, Nile and Yangtze. The ranges are the Alps, Andes, Atlas Mountains, Himalayas, Rockies and Ural Mountains.
Why do countries trade natural resources?
⌄
No country has everything it needs. Countries export what they have extra of and import what they lack. Natural Resources Around the World asks how trade could help a country that has plenty of oil but is too dry to grow coffee.
What is a chokepoint in trade?
⌄
A chokepoint is a narrow place that many ships must pass through, such as a canal or strait. If one is blocked, ships must wait or take a long way around and goods cost more. World Trade Routes covers the Panama Canal, Suez Canal and Strait of Malacca.
