Relative Pronouns Who, Whose, Which, That

Written by Adi Ackerman, Head Teacher

"Relative Pronouns Who, Whose, Which, That" is written for 6th Grade (Ages 11-12), and it covers Common Core L.6.1. If your student is a year younger but already steady on pronouns, the page still works. You may just need to read the instructions out loud. And if they are older and possessive, relative and indefinite pronouns never quite stuck, this is a short review rather than busywork.

FAQ

How do I use this possessive, relative and indefinite pronouns worksheet?

⌄

Use the indefinite pronoun sheet alongside agreement lessons. Use the relative pronoun sheet before teaching commas around nonrestrictive clauses.

What does this worksheet teach?

⌄

Fill in who, whose, which or that in 12 sentences, then combine 5 pairs with a relative pronoun. Use who for people, whose to show ownership, which after a comma for extra information about a thing, and that with no comma for information that tells which thing. The directions on the page read: Write who, whose, which or that on each blank. Use each word from the box as many times as you need. An answer key is included.

Can I use this possessive, relative and indefinite pronouns worksheet for homeschool or classroom?

⌄

Yes, both. We made it for 6th Grade pronouns, and the page works the same whether it lands on a kitchen table or a center rotation. At home, most families go through it together and talk the answers out loud, and that talking is where most of the learning happens with possessive, relative and indefinite pronouns. In class it runs well as independent work while you pull a small group. Print one copy or thirty, whichever the day needs.

Which indefinite pronouns can be singular or plural?

⌄

Most, none, some and all can be either, depending on the noun that follows. Most of the cookies were chocolate chip, but Most of the pizza was gone by noon.

When do you use which and when do you use that?

⌄

Use which after a comma for extra information about a thing, and that with no comma for information that tells which thing. Compare Our old car, which is twenty years old, with The bus that goes to the zoo.

What does whose show?

⌄

Whose shows ownership, as in The girl whose painting won first prize is in my class.
