How do I use this time word problems worksheet?
⌄
Print the page and read the directions with your child: Draw jumps on the number line from the start time to the end time. Add the jumps. Write the elapsed time in hours and minutes. When they finish, check the work together with the answer key.
What does this worksheet teach?
⌄
A worked example shows how to find the time from 9:45 to 11:20 by jumping to the next hour, then by whole hours, then adding the minutes left. Eight problems follow, such as School from 8:15 a.m. to 2:55 p.m. and Family hike from 8:55 to 11:40, each answered in hours and minutes. The directions on the page read: Draw jumps on the number line from the start time to the end time. Add the jumps. Write the elapsed time in hours and minutes. An answer key is included.
Can I use this time word problems worksheet for homeschool or classroom?
⌄
Yes, both. We made it for 4th Grade word problems, and the page works the same whether it lands on a kitchen table or a center rotation. At home, most families go through it together and talk the answers out loud, and that talking is where most of the learning happens with time word problems. In class it runs well as independent work while you pull a small group. Print one copy or thirty, whichever the day needs.
What is the best strategy for solving elapsed time word problems?
⌄
Drawing an open number line and jumping in friendly increments (to the next hour, then in hours, then remaining minutes) is a powerful strategy that these worksheets are designed to support.
What kinds of time scenarios appear in 4th grade time word problems?
⌄
Problems involve calculating how long a movie runs, when a train arrives, how much time remains before an event, and scheduling multiple activities within a set time frame.
How do these time worksheets help students who struggle with AM/PM and 24-hour time?
⌄
Problems include contexts that naturally distinguish AM from PM (morning activities vs. evening activities), building intuitive understanding of the 12-hour and 24-hour clock systems.
How many 4th Grade time word problems worksheets are there?
⌄
2 printable worksheets, all free to preview. Downloads are included with a ClassWeekly free trial, and every page prints on standard 8.5 x 11 paper.
What age are time word problems worksheets for?
⌄
These are written for 4th Grade students, roughly ages 9-10. Many teachers also use them a grade up for review or a grade down as an extension, so use the preview to judge the fit for a particular child.
Are these time word problems worksheets aligned to Common Core?
⌄
Yes. Each one shows the Common Core code it covers on its own page, so you can check the alignment yourself rather than taking our word for it.
