Measure and Classify Angles With a Protractor
Written by Adi Ackerman, Head Teacher
"Measure and Classify Angles With a Protractor" is written for 6th Grade (Ages 11-12). If your student is a year younger but already steady on geometry, the page still works. You may just need to read the instructions out loud. And if they are older and classify angles and shapes never quite stuck, this is a short review rather than busywork.

6th grade math worksheet: measure 9 angles from 25° to 160° with a protractor and classify each as acute, right or obtuse. Answer key included. Part of our classify angles and shapes geometry collection.
How do I use this worksheet?
Have protractors ready for the angle page and show how to extend short sides. On the triangle and quadrilateral pages, ask students to say which mark told them the answer.
What students will practice
- Students will measure 9 angles with a protractor, extending the sides when needed.
- Students will read angle measures such as 40°, 135° and 160° to within 2 degrees.
- Students will classify each angle as acute, right or obtuse.

FAQ
How do I use this classify angles and shapes worksheet?
⌄
Have protractors ready for the angle page and show how to extend short sides. On the triangle and quadrilateral pages, ask students to say which mark told them the answer.
What does this worksheet teach?
⌄
Measure 9 angles from 25° to 160° with a protractor and classify each as acute, right or obtuse. An acute angle is less than 90°, a right angle is exactly 90°, and an obtuse angle is between 90° and 180°. The directions on the page read: Measure each angle with a protractor. Extend the sides if needed. Then write acute, right or obtuse. An answer key is included.
Can I use this classify angles and shapes worksheet for homeschool or classroom?
⌄
Yes, both. We made it for 6th Grade geometry, and the page works the same whether it lands on a kitchen table or a center rotation. At home, most families go through it together and talk the answers out loud, and that talking is where most of the learning happens with classify angles and shapes. In class it runs well as independent work while you pull a small group. Print one copy or thirty, whichever the day needs.
What are acute, right and obtuse angles?
⌄
An acute angle is less than 90°, a right angle is exactly 90° and an obtuse angle is between 90° and 180°. On Measure and Classify Angles With a Protractor, a 40° angle is acute and a 135° angle is obtuse.
How do you classify a triangle by its sides?
⌄
A scalene triangle has no equal sides, an isosceles triangle has at least two equal sides and an equilateral triangle has three. A triangle with sides 4 cm, 7 cm and 7 cm is isosceles.
What is the most specific name for a quadrilateral?
⌄
It is the name that fits all of its marks. A shape with four right angles and four equal sides is a square, not just a rectangle or a rhombus.
Is there an answer key?
⌄
Yes. All 3 sheets have an answer key, and the angle key accepts measures within 2°.
