The Digestive System
Written by Adi Ackerman, Head Teacher
"The Digestive System" is written for 6th Grade (Ages 11-12). If your student is a year younger but already steady on living things, the page still works. You may just need to read the instructions out loud. And if they are older and human body systems never quite stuck, this is a short review rather than busywork.

What does this worksheet teach?
⌄
Label seven digestive organs on a diagram and number the six steps of a sandwich's path. The directions on the page read: Read the passage. Label each box from the word bank. An answer key is included.
Can I use this human body systems worksheet for homeschool or classroom?
⌄
Yes, both. We made it for 6th Grade living things, and the page works the same whether it lands on a kitchen table or a center rotation. At home, most families go through it together and talk the answers out loud, and that talking is where most of the learning happens with human body systems. In class it runs well as independent work while you pull a small group. Print one copy or thirty, whichever the day needs.
How do the respiratory and circulatory systems work together?
⌄
The respiratory system brings oxygen into the lungs, where it passes through tiny air sacs into the blood. The heart then pumps the oxygen-rich blood through arteries to every part of the body. Carbon dioxide travels back to the lungs to be breathed out.
Why does your heart rate go up when you exercise?
⌄
Working muscles need more oxygen and energy, so the respiratory system brings in more oxygen and the circulatory system pumps it to the muscles. Heart Rate and Exercise has students graph sample data for one student, rising from 74 to 136 beats per minute and returning to 74 after rest.
What organs does food pass through in the digestive system?
⌄
On The Digestive System sheet, food passes through the mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine and large intestine. The liver and pancreas help digestion, but food never passes through them.
