August Lesson Plans and Activities
What to teach in August, and the printables to go with it. Seasonal pages are worth setting up three or four weeks ahead, so plan August during July.
August has no dedicated seasonal theme in the library yet. The core curriculum plans below carry the month instead.
Core plans to run alongside
Seasonal work is the garnish. These are the plans doing the actual curriculum work in August.
Planning August
Seasonal pages need three to four weeks of lead time before the date, so August is something to set up during July. Publish early, then leave it: a themed page that goes live the week of the event has already missed most of the search interest.
Keep the theme as the hook and the skill as the lesson. A August plan still has to teach something on the curriculum, otherwise it is decoration that costs you a teaching block. Every plan linked here names the skill first and the theme second.
If your grade is not represented in a theme above, it usually means there is no themed practice for it yet. Use the core plans instead and let the theme live in your read-aloud rather than the worksheet.
