Preschool Reading Lesson Plans

4 plans covering the reading topics preschool actually teaches. Each one is a full lesson: objective, timed steps, a check for understanding, and the practice pages to hand out.

What reading looks like in preschool

Preschool reading is oral. Children hear rhyme, notice that print carries meaning, recognise their own name, and learn letter shapes as pictures long before they sound them out.

Preschool is about exposure, not mastery. Sessions are short, adult-led and hands-on, and success looks like joining in rather than finishing a page. Everything here suits ages 3 to 5.
