Informative Writing My Weekend Routine

Written by Adi Ackerman, Head Teacher

"Informative Writing My Weekend Routine" is written for 4th Grade (Ages 9-10). If your little one is a year younger but already steady on informative writing, the page still works. You may just need to read the instructions out loud. And if they are older and writing informative paragraphs never quite stuck, this is a short review rather than busywork.

FAQ

How do I use this writing informative paragraphs worksheet?

⌄

Print the page and read the directions with your child: Plan your writing in the boxes. Then use your plan to write a paragraph about your weekend routine on the lines. Afterward, talk about what they wrote or drew.

What does this worksheet teach?

⌄

An informative writing page on the topic Explain your weekend routine so a reader knows what you do and in what order. A planner has an introduction box, three boxes for Morning, Afternoon and Evening, and a conclusion box that asks why the routine matters, followed by writing lines. The directions on the page read: Plan your writing in the boxes. Then use your plan to write a paragraph about your weekend routine on the lines.

Can I use this writing informative paragraphs worksheet for homeschool or classroom?

⌄

Yes, both. We made it for 4th Grade informative writing, and the page works the same whether it lands on a kitchen table or a center rotation. At home, most families go through it together and talk the answers out loud, and that talking is where most of the learning happens with writing informative paragraphs. In class it runs well as independent work while you pull a small group. Print one copy or thirty, whichever the day needs.

What goes in a 4th grade informative paragraph?

⌄

A topic sentence that names the main idea, three or more details with facts and definitions, and a closing sentence that sums up (W.4.2). Linking words like also and another join one detail to the next.

What is a fact card planner?

⌄

The page prints a short list of true facts, so your child spends the time organizing and writing instead of searching. The bats card, for example, explains echolocation, and the planner asks for 3 details that each start with a linking word.

Can an informative paragraph explain causes or compare two things?

⌄

Yes. The glaciers planner has a cause box and 2 effect boxes, the moths and butterflies planner has a compare chart and an Alike box and the saving water planner sets out a problem and 3 solutions.

Is there an answer key?

⌄

6 of the 17 sheets have one. The fact card planners are open, so check that every detail comes from the card and is written in your child's own words.
