These spelling worksheets for 5th grade focus on the longer words that trip up older students (CCSS L.5.2.E). Students spell words with prefixes and suffixes like un, re, dis, ful, less, ness, tion and sion, find silent letters in words like doubt, design and listen, decide when to double a consonant, choose between able and ible, ant and ent, and ance and ence, and spell multisyllabic words one syllable at a time, including the unstressed schwa sound. Three spelling lists of 15 words cover shr, thr and squ, ie and ei, and able and ible, six crosswords review endings, suffixes, homophones, job words and commonly misspelled words, and word scrambles and hidden letters puzzles use words like adventure, continent, attention and committee. All 37 sheets have an answer key.
